Santa Barbara Cattlemen’s Scholarship Program

The Association strives to encourage high school students who are interested in agriculture in general, and ranching in particular, to attend college and pursue a course of study that will help them succeed in ranching or the many support services that the ranching industry needs to stay viable.

There are two scholarship programs currently available to high
school students entering colleges or universities:

The Ted Monighetti Scholarship Program

  • The Association’s general scholarship program.

Santa Barbara County Cattlemen’s Association College Scholarship

The Association’s annual scholarship is a single scholarship to be awarded to one Santa Barbara County’s high school graduates each year, offering up to $5,000 for tuition, fees, and books for the first year of college.

This scholarship is for graduating seniors pursuing a four year academic degree program at an approved college or university in a field of study which has the promise of providing the applicant, upon completion of that course of study, the opportunity to contribute directly or indirectly through positive promotion and/or good will, to the field of cattle ranching. Fields of study that may meet this requirement include, but are not limited to, education, animal science, and agricultural business, etc.

In addition to the school’s normal college scholarship application and an autobiographical essay, candidates submit an additional essay of 300 words or less describing their interest in ranching, and how you would use your planned education and subsequent career to support cattle ranching and the ranching way of life. Topics and specific questions to be addressed in the essay vary from year to year to keep the subject matter fresh. But, interest in ranching and agriculture and support service careers are a focus of the essay.

Details of the payment procedure are provided to applicants on request.

We are proud to announce our recent partnership with the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara. The Foundation is a 501 [c] (3) corporation and contributions made to the Foundation in the name of the Santa Barbara County Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship are tax deductible as a charitable contribution.

Our scholarship program is one of the Association’s top priorities, as it fundamentally furthers our mission to promote the sustainability and general well-being of the cattle industry in all of its components, including beef production, marketing, range improvement, and relations with the public.

Investing in students who are interested in careers in agriculture or related fields of study is investing in our future. I hope you will join us in supporting this important endeavor.

The Santa Barbara Cattlemen’s Association’s Annual Scholarship Fund awards one or more scholarships each year to graduating high school seniors from Santa Barbara County who are pursuing bachelor’s degrees in subjects that will provide them with the knowledge and skills to pursue careers that contributes to the cattle industry. These subjects could include education, animal science, or business.

Please consider a gift to the Santa Barbara Cattlemen’s Association’s Annual Scholarship Fund this year.
